After living the whole of her life being abused by her tyrannical father, Liberty Gates goes through the open door the Lord provides and makes her escape. Disguised as a man, she is quickly hired on as a chuck wagon master by godly trail-boss, Joshua Carpenter, on a cattle drive with twelve rowdy drovers making their way to the railheads. Along the way, Liberty receives guidance from the Teacher and COunselor whose loving-kindness changes her heart, heals her soul, and reminds her of a dream long forgotten amid the trials and perils of traveling the open range.
