Mrs. Charlotte Mathews was the author of two popular novels written in the late eighteenth century: Simple Facts; or, The History of an Orphan (1793) and Perplexities; or, The Fortunate Elopement (1794). Little is know of her and she is often confused with the other popular novelist Eliza Kirkham Strong (Mrs C. Mathews) who was writing novels around the same time.
