Toby and Samantha live in a small town where nine children have mysteriously disappeared during the last year. Three from the northern part of the town, three from the western and three from the southern. Toby and Samantha live in the eastern part of town. Will the kidnappers come to their area next? Toby and his sister make friends with John Beck, a blind man who has just moved into the house across the street. Toby agrees to take John's dog Nero for walks every day and Samantha reads the newspaper to him. Even their parents think that John is a nice man. But suddenly strange things begin to happen: Toby is chased by two men in a black van. Are they the kidnappers?
