The omission of considering the nature of the ground where it is desirable or necessary to construct the tank, has frequently led to great disappointments and increased expense in repairs and reconstruction, which, by a little care and additional outlay at the outset, would have been spared: for instance, when the depth of the tank is considerable, and the ground in which it is sunk is very humid, it is found that, owing to the pressure of the contents of the tank from within, and of the water from without, it is scarcely possible to render the tank...
