On Strong Land.--It is much more difficult to form a good system for raising wheat on strong land, than on light, at least in a northern climate, where beans are a hazardous crop. A fallow with five furrows is absolutely necessary. Begin to plough early in. spring, nnd sow the wheat early in September; a greater quantity of manure is necessary for this kind of soil, namely, from 35 to 40 cubical yards, and 1.50 bushels of lime per Scotch acre. Grass-seeds with lime is hazardous in strong land; beans would be the best second crop, if not bear or barley. If bear is sown, take one furrow immediately after harvest, and two in the spring; with the bear sow grass-seeds; and after one year's hay, and...
