Johnny Dunne, the Boss, is a poor, tough, but increasingly desperate smallholder with a dozen children, and Mary, a loving, loyal and bewildered wife. The Boss's life is shattered by an accident to his beloved daughter Babs, who emigrates to America, leaving behind a sorrowing father and a brother Jack, who has his own problems, including being incarcerated in the Weighing Room. Told with humour and sensitivity, this is a sad, funny and heart warming story of a Dublin family who in spite of all, live to tell the tale, and even laugh.
