This book is the first of a two-volume project. It details personal remembrances of the first twenty-five seasons of the Mets. Many quirky facts and a few editorial observations are made, sometimes with a New YorkerЃfs sardonic sense of humor. Indeed, although I have not lived in the state of my birth since 2003, and have spent perhaps a third of my sixty years away from the area, I will always be a New Yorker with a New Yorker's sense of humor. This book endeavors to reflect that humor. Volume II will cover the years between 1987 and 2002 in considerable detail, although this first volume concludes with observations on the state of the Mets in particular and of baseball in general in the ten years since I walked out of the now demolished Shea Stadium.
