It covers a portion of suburban Pittsburgh and some outlying rural areas. The district serves students in a 58-square-mile (150 km2) area that includes the towns of McDonald, Midway, and Hickory, as well as the townships of Robinson and Mount Pleasant. According to a 2008 local census, it serves a resident population of 8,878. The residents' per capita income was $17,963, while median family income was $45,688. According to District officials, in school year 2007-08 the Fort Cherry School District provided basic educational services to 1,236 pupils through the employment of 95 teachers, 16 full-time and part-time support personnel, and 9 administrators.
