A chance encounter in Tudor London between poor Tom Canty and the Prince of Wales has astonishing consequences when the two boys realise that they look exactly alike. They exchange roles, and Tom discovers that rank has its disadvantages as well as its advantages, and the Prince has to adapt to changed circumstances that have made this historical frolic by Mark Twain a favourite book for generations.
