1895. Ian Maclaren is the pen name of Dr. John Watson, a popular preacher and able minister. He published a number of religious works under his own name, but as Ian Maclaren he was known as a leading member of the Kailyard School of Scottish fiction which came into being towards the end of the nineteenth century.
