Queen Elizabeth's Hospital, known traditionally as "The City School", is one of the oldest schools in Bristol. It was founded by the will of affluent merchant John Carr in 1586, gaining its first Royal Charter in 1590. Walter A. Sampson's book, first published in 1910, tells the story of the School's first three-hundred years.
