The story is related by Timmy and Tammy, who are two land turtles known for their stories throughout the country. When Sheldon the turtle hatches on the beach, he heads to the forest instead of the sea! In the forest he meets Titus the ant, the butterflies Silvia and Lydia, and Harty the eagle. With his new friends he learns some valuable lessons about his strengths and weaknesses before joining his brothers and sisters in the sea.
