Raised in ornate, aristocratic splendour in colonial India, Nawab Ahmed excels academically and, upon graduation, is recommended for further study in England. Reluctantly leaving behind his beloved wife and daughters, yet brimming with excitement and anticipation, he embarks on a journey to the West. During the crossing, he meets the mysterious Indra. Beloved of all men who lay eyes on her, she is wanted dead by parties that connect the both of them. While this threat remains, Ahmed's tenure in England proves to be a time of great revelation, love and friendship, at all levels of society. With questions of identity and colonial rule impossible to ignore given his position, Ahmed also learns that the personal is the political, whether he likes it or not.
