We first meet Daisy in her beautiful home with devoted husband and well-behaved children. However, we do not tarry here long for we are taken back in time to trace Daisy's history. The story begins in a rural community in Yorkshire. Although living conditions are harsh for the local populace, they are treated well by a benevolent gentry. Daisy is born into this well-ordered society, but after her mother dies birthing her second child and her father tragically loses his life, she is brought up by her grandparents who are guilty of deliberate deception. Time passes and Daisy eventually finds employment at a large country house where, one day, a child arrives to take up domestic duties. Daisy is amazed to be 'looking at a younger version of herself'.
