The adventures of Ruthie, an enthusiastic lively 8-year-old tomboy, are based on the real life experiences that she had growing up in West Pittston, PA during the 1930's. The town, fondly referred to as The Mosquito Patch, sported a train station with a wonderful Round House where Ruthie and her friends spent many hours. The main employers were the Mine Owners and almost all of the men worked in the mines until the depression came. Ruthie's large Lithuanian family learned to make do and never lost their generous spirit of giving, sharing, and taking care of others, relying on one another to make things work. Ruthie, herself, was a hardworking, mischievous, creative thinker, always coming up with a plan, to make situations brighter, "richer", and better for everyone. It was a different time where there were outhouses, coal stoves, and a telephone located at the local drugstore.
