A few years before my father passed away he gave me a large brown envelope. On opening this I found it contained three items; the original package containing his war medals; and two exercise books - one small and one large. The large one contained his wartime diary and notes and you are now holding those contents in the form of this book. My wife Shirley and I have turned his manuscript into this book. The contents are as written by my father, and we have not adapted, added or removed any single item. My father was a milkman most of his life, a quiet and happy family man and I did not know much about the 5 years service he gave to his country during the second World War. He just did not talk about it. His diary and notes, 'My War on Wheels' certainly opened my eyes to all the extreme conditions that he (and many others like him) endured during this conflict and I am delighted that we have now got his work into proper book form.
