It was founded on January 2, 1979 by John Tanton who is known as the founder of many anti-immigration and environmentalist groups, and its first executive director was environmental lawyer Roger Conner. FAIR has its headquarters in Washington, D.C., and has been called to testify in front of the United States Congress, on immigration bills, more than any other organization in the country. The president of FAIR since 1988 is Dan Stein. The organization claims to have more than 250,000 members and supporters. FAIR describes itself as non-partisan.
