As of 2010, the high school's enrollment is 2,568 students in grades 9 through 12. It is the only high school under the responsibility of the Franklin Township Community School Corporation. Franklin Central was established in 1960, succeeding Franklin Township High School. Classes were taught in what is now Franklin Township Middle School West. The current school building was constructed during 1975 and 1976. Classes at the current building began in September 1976. The school underwent construction and renovation in 1990 and 2003. The school can accommodate approximately 2400 students with 408,000 square feet (37,900 m2) of floor space. The Freshmen Academy, an addition to the main building, opened in the fall of 2009.
