The song was written by Amy Lee and Terry Balsamo and produced by Dave Fortman and it was included on their second studio album The Open Door. On July 30, 2006 several radio stations played the track before its official physical release as a CD single. Later, on August, 15 the song was available for digital download and it was officially released as the first single from the album on September 25, 2006 through their record label Wind-up Records. Lee confirmed that the song was written about her ex-boyfriend Shaun Morgan, the lead singer of the band Seether.
