He began his career by joining Educational Broadcasting System's voice acting division in 1998. In 1997, Sang Hyeon once was on stage, performing the parts of a Japanese assassinator and a liege in a South Korean musical The Last Empress. He also appeared in a 1992 South Korean independent film Opening the Closed School Gates. After his exclusive work at EBS, Sang Hyeon has been a freelancer since 2001. Although he was born in 1971, he looks younger than his age, and that is why many fans of Sang Hyeon tend to call him ???? (Sang-Hyeon-So-Nyeon) meaning "The Boy Named Sang Hyeon", or its shortened form, ??? (Sang-Hyeon-Son).
