The season saw the Sabres win the Northeast Division title and return to the playoffs for the first time in three seasons. Ryan Miller won the Vezina Trophy for the first time in his career. The Vezina win was the league-best eight for the Sabres franchise since 1982 when the trophy began being awarded to the league's best goaltender.
