He is playing his 2012–13 junior season for Whitney M. Young Magnet High School. He is considered the top center and one of the top players in the recruiting class of 2014, by ESPN,Scout.com and Rivals.com. As of November, he is the number one player in the class, according to Rivals.com. He is a distant cousin of Emeka Okafor. At the beginning of his junior year, various sources began describing him as 7 feet (2.13 m) tall. At the June–July 2012 FIBA Under-17 World Championship, he earned the Tournament MVP for the gold-medal winning USA team. He has been heavily recruited since before high school and holds several Division I basketball scholarship offers. In high school competition, he was an All-state performer as a sophomore in 2012.
