The French Open, known in France as the Internationaux de France, is an annual tennis tournament created in 1891 and now (since 1928) played on outdoor red clay courts at the Stade Roland Garros in Paris, France. Until 1897, the men's singles event was the only one to be held at the French Open. The tournament is played during two weeks in late May and early June, and has been chronologically the second of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year since 1987. The event was not held from 1915 to 1919 because of World War I and was held unofficially under German occupation from 1941 to 1944 during World War II. The national body that organizes this event is the Federation Francaise de Tennis (FFT).
