It first began broadcasting on January 3, 1983 using pre-recorded in-vision links, before moving to a studio format at Central Independent Television in 1987. The name of the broadcast was changed to CITV in 1993 and the presentation reverted to an out-of-vision format, with Steven Ryde providing the voice-overs. In 1998 the logo changed again to CiTV while in-vision presentation returned with a popular studio format. Between 1998 and 2006 the ITV children's programming underwent a number of changes, culminating in the creation of the CITV channel in March 2006 to fall into line with the BBC, who had launched CBeebies and the CBBC Channel four years earlier. It was initially launched only on Freeview, Homechoice and Telewest but was made available on Sky Digital in May 2006.
