High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The authorship of Titus Andronicus has been debated since the late 17th century. Titus Andronicus was probably written between 1588 and 1593. It appreared in three quarto editions from 1594-1601 with no author named. It was published under William Shakespeare's name in the 1623 First Folio of his complete plays. However, as with many of his early works, scholars have long suspected that it may have been one of Shakespeare's collaborations with another playwright. While other early plays have also been examined for evidence of co-authorship, none have been as closely scrutinised or as consistently rumoured to have been principally written by another playwright. The principal contender for the co-authorship is George Peele.
