At the age of 13, Thicke befriended Andre Harrell and three years later signed with Interscope Records to write songs. In 2000, Thicke started recording his debut album, A Beautiful World (2003). The album peaked at number 152 on the US Billboard 200, selling only 63,000 copies. Internationally, it peaked at number thirty-six on the Dutch Albums Chart. Two singles from the album were released; the first, "When I Get You Alone", peaked at number 5 on the Dutch Singles Chart, but it did not hit the US charts. The second single did not chart.
