The Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) (Pashto: ????? ?????? ?????; Urdu: ?????? ????? ????) is a semi-autonomous tribal region in the northwest of Pakistan, lying between Afghanistan to the west and north, and the pakistan provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the east and Balochistan to the south. The FATA comprises seven agencies (tribal districts) and six frontier regions. The territory is almost exclusively inhabited by Pashtun tribes, who also live in the neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Southern Afghanistan and are Muslims by faith. The territory is governed through the Frontier Crimes Regulations.
