The 2010 Kashmir unrest was a series of protests in the Muslim majority Kashmir Valley in Indian Administered Kashmir which started in June 2010 after the Indian Army killed three Kashmiri civilians and claimed to have killed Pakistani "infiltrators". The protests occurred in a movement was launched by Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Indian Administered Kashmir in June 2010, who called for the complete demilitarization of Jammu and Kashmir. The All Parties Hurriyat Conference made this call to protest, citing human rights abuses by Indian troops. Protesters shouting pro-independence slogans, defied curfew, attacked security forces with stones and burnt police vehicles and government buildings.
