High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Tamil-Brahmi, or Damili (Tamil: ????? ??????), is an early phonetic script used to write Tamil characters. It is a variant of the Brahmi script, used alongside other variants throughout South Asia, namely Ashokan Brahmi, Southern Brahmi, Bhattiprolu script and the Sri Lankan based Sinhala-Brahmi. Surviving inscriptions of the script have been found on cave beds, pot sherds, Jar burials, coins, seals and rings. Used widely across present-day southern Indian subcontinent (known in ancient times as Tamilakam) in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and in neighboring Sri Lanka, some examples of Tamil Brahmi have also been found in places like Egypt and Thailand.
