Upon graduating high school, Gayle signed with Decca Records and released her debut single "I've Cried the Blue Right Out of My Eyes" in 1970. In 1974, she signed with United Artists Records and focused on a more country pop production, which was showcased through her first single for the label entitled "Wrong Road Again".
