The Salukis compete in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Salukis have been coached by Barry Hinson since March 28, 2012. He replaced Chris Lowery who led the team to the NCAA tournament in 2004 through 2007. In 2008, the Salukis finished the regular season at 17–14 and advanced to the NIT, where they defeated Oklahoma State University before falling to Arizona State University in the second round. Lowery was fired on March 2, 2012 after ending the season with the most losses in school history.
