Phillip "Phil" Coulson is a fictional character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a shared fictional universe that is the setting of several superhero films produced by Marvel Studios. Coulson first appeared as a member of the fictional agency S.H.I.E.L.D. in Iron Man (2008), where he was portrayed by American actor Clark Gregg, who then signed a multi-film deal with Marvel Studios and reprised the role in Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011), and The Avengers (2012).
