It involved the Bosnian government army in Bihac on one side and Serb forces on the other side, who surrounded the area in a double siege – from the Army of the Republic of Serbian Krajina (in Serb-held territories of Croatia) on the north-west to the Army of Republika Srpska (in Serb-held territories of Bosnia) on the south-east – as well as the rebel Bosniak forces who sided with the Bosnian Serb Army (VRS) in the Autonomous Province of Western Bosnia on the north from 1993. The Siege of Bihac lasted for three years, from June 1992 until 4–5 August 1995, when Operation Storm ended it after the Croatian Army overran the rebel Serbs in Croatia and in the north-west.
