The clear aim was to get promoted back to the Regionalliga, and after a strong finish to the previous season, optimism was high - a campaign was started with the slogan "wir kommen wieder" ("we're coming back"). However, competition was tough, with several other teams having come down from the Regionalliga, and Dynamo found themselves third in a three-way title race with 1. FC Magdeburg and VfB Leipzig. Dynamo were unable to achieve consistent results, and a defeat to SV Grimma in March ended their promotion hopes, and forced the resignation of manager Cor Pot. Coach Meinhard Hemp took over for the remainder of the season, but with nothing to play for, Dynamo slumped to fifth place, with attendances dropping below 1,000.
