High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The wound bed preparation (WBP) concept was first mooted in the year 2000 where the emphasis was placed on systematizing the healing of chronic wounds. The proposal recommended that wound management should address the identified impediments to healing if a successful outcome is to be achieved. Initially, three publications launched this concept on the wound healing world which focussed on the management processes of; wound exudate, bioburden and devitalised tissue. The intention was not to imply that these management themes had been previously overlooked but that clinicians should precede the identification of defined treatment aim(s) through the integration of the patient and their wound into the plan of care1-3.
