The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China was represented at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens by 32 athletes in 10 sports, under the designation Hong Kong, China (Chinese: ????). Although Hong Kong had become a special administrative region of the People's Republic of China since the transfer of sovereignty from the United Kingdom in 1997, Hong Kong has continued to send a separate delegation from that of the People's Republic of China, which represents Mainland China, to the Olympic Games and other international sport events, as prescribed in its constitutional document, the Basic Law. It was the 12th appearance of Hong Kong in the Summer Olympics. The Greek alphabet placed it last before the host delegation in the Parade of Nations.
