High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Charles Eamer Sexey (March 1818 – 24 July 1888) was an English trader, merchant adventurer and gold rush pioneer. He first visited New Zealand as a young man where he farmed and traded. In 1849 he travelled to San Francisco and took part in the Gold Rush as a trader in the mining camps. He eventually made his fortune and moved to Marysville, California, where he became a Levee Commissioner and Chairman of the important Anti-Debris Association. He built some of the most important buildings in the city, one of which housed the Appeal newspaper which is still in existence as the Appeal-Democrat.
