It was formed from the acquisition of an American wire company, Copperweld Bimetallics LLC, by Chinese manufacturer Fushi International in October 2007. The combined company is the largest manufacturer and supplier of bimetallic electrical conductor products in the world by volume. Its main products are wire, stranded cable, and busbar made from its Copperweld® brand copper-clad steel ("CCS") or copper-clad aluminium ("CCA").
