A football book with a difference, it takes you behind the glory and the cameras and, with only a few holds barred to protect the slightly less than innocent, they reveal the best of their stories from the last 50 years, many of which have never been told before. It would be impossible to produce a book like this of the modern game. The relationship between managers, players and journalists is nothing like it used to be. Press conferences are regimented, permission is sought to speak to players and even questions sometimes have to be seen in advance by the club’s Press office! Today, clubs go to great lengths to keep journalists at arms’ length and in many cases only tolerate them because they have to. It’s all a far cry from authors’ Dave and Neal’s experience back in the day, when players and journalists regularly socialised – having a game of golf or going out for a meal and a beer or three.
