1941 was not a remarkable vintage year for wines, but a great year for the Materson family. Richard Stephen Materson, Dick, as he always introduced himself, was born on February 11th. In his Memoirs, A Balanced Medical Life, which he began in 2007, he details his youth and the many events that shaped his character. A masterful story teller, he meant his memoirs to be a gift to his young grandchildren, who he felt would not have the opportunity to know him firsthand. The book recounts in vivid details many of the extraordinary events he experienced, and some of the great people he met during his incredibly productive lifetime. Readers will be inspired to write their own stories. His wife, Rosa, completed his work, as he wished.
