The group were founded by Drew Barfield (lead vocals and guitar), Gary Howard (guitar and keyboards), Stuart Watt (bass) and Chris Bolton (drums). When the group only consisted of Barfield, Howard and Watt, they were titled Terra Nova who were active from 1974 to 1975 and released one album, Terra Nova, in January 1976. Shortly after the release of the album, Bolton joined and the band name was changed to Moving Vehicles, who achieved major success, releasing four highly successful albums, Moving Vehicles (1976), The Path to Nowhere (1977), Royalties (1979) and Blackout (1982) in the space of seven years.
