The Sushruta compendium or "samahita" was probably compiled circa 6th cen BCE. At the end of several chapters, ancient Sanskrit texts themselves explicitly declare that they have been supplemented, edited, and partially rewritten by earlier authors, whose dates run up to about the 8th century BCE. The Sushruta Samhita was translated to Arabic as Kitab-i-Susrud in the 8th cen CE. It was studied by Bhishagratna translated a version (? By Nagarjuna) to English in 1907. The redaction text, Sushruta Samhita contains 184 chapters and description of 1120 illnesses, 700 medicinal plants, a detailed study on Anatomy, 64 preparations from mineral sources and 57 preparations based on animal sources.
