The NEFL was founded in 1994 and played their inaugural season that same year. There are currently 42 semi-professional football organizations that compete in the New England Football League, making the NEFL the largest semi-pro football conference in the United States. The NEFL is divided into 3 different conferences, AAA, AA, and A. Teams are placed in these conferences based on talent level, location, and competition.
