The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest is a contest in which college students build devices to complete a simple task in a minimum of twenty steps in the style of American cartoonist Rube Goldberg. It is sponsored by the Theta Tau Educational Foundation with financial support from several industrial sponsors which vary from year to year. Local contests are held at various universities throughout the United States, and local winners are eligible to compete in the national contest. The college national contest is administered by Phi Chapter of Theta Tau and held at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. There is also a high school contest held at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan.
