The 1998 season of the African Cup Winners' Cup football club tournament was won by Esperance Sportive de Tunis in two-legged final victory against Clube Desportivo Primeiro de Agosto. This was the twenty-fourth season that the tournament took place for the winners of each African country's domestic cup. Thirty-nine sides entered the competition. Teams from Central African Republic were disqualified because their federation was in debt to CAF. Club Vita from Republic of the Congo withdrew before the 1st leg of the preliminary round, while Hawks from Gambia and the Senegal representative, who was not named by the Senegalese federation withdrew before the 1st leg of the first round, together with Vital'O from Burundi who withdrew after the 1st leg of the first round.
