Itarsi is a commercial hub for agricultural goods, and is also famous for its railway junction. The Bori Wildlife Sanctuary and Tawa Dam are nearby. Itarsi got its name (that can be derived from its name itself) from Intt (brick) and rassi (rope) which used to be traded around the town.But now plywood factory take the place of "intt" and "rassi."
