In order to be considered a serial murderer, one must commit a series of murders that consists of at least three homicides that can be judged as intentional or premeditated. Serial killers have been found to have commonalities no matter where they are from, although there are some differences compared to United States serial killers. A study of serial killing worldwide found that "76% of all recently reported serial killing happened in the United States, and 21% happened in Europe. Of this 21%, England was responsible for 28% of that, Germany 27%, and France 13% of the European serial murder" (Vronsky 2004, p. 32). This does not take into account that the U.S. has a greater population than most countries or better technology for noticing patterns of serial murder and catching killers.
