James' portrayal of Devon has earned him the 2007 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series, and the 2009 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series. As of 2011, Devon was revealed to be biracial much like Bryton who is of African American and European descent. He is also notable for being the first biracial child on the series, much like his adoptive second cousin, Marcus Forrester (Texas Battle) of The Bold and the Beautiful.
