The CityRail system is an extensive commuter-based rail network centred on the metropolitan area of Sydney and comprises 11 metropolitan lines, 4 intercity lines and 1 regional line. The entire length of railway is maintained by Railcorp which is a state-owned corporation. The network has over 2,060 km of track, extending as far as Newcastle, Dungog and Scone to the north, over the Blue Mountains west to the city of Lithgow, south to Bomaderry-Nowra, and southwest to Goulburn and overall consisting of 307 stations.
