The Red River Rivalry, commonly known as the OU-Texas Game or Texas-OU Game, is an American college football rivalry game played annually by the Oklahoma Sooners football team of the University of Oklahoma and the Texas Longhorns football team of the University of Texas. The series is considered one of the major rivalries in NCAA football. Both schools consider the game to be one of their biggest rivalries, alongside their in-state rivalries with the Texas A M Aggies, for the Longhorns (the Lone Star Showdown) and the Oklahoma State Cowboys, for the Sooners (the Bedlam Series). The name is derived from the Red River that forms part of the boundary between the U.S. states of Texas and Oklahoma. The game originated in 1900, while Oklahoma was still a United States territory and the Oklahoma campus was still in Oklahoma Territory.
